Holy Trinity Chapel

Holy Trinity Church in the centre of Richmond Market Place dates from 1155. It contains the small Chapel of Holy Trinity which is still in use although the bulk of the building houses the Green Howard Regimental Museum. Entrance to the Chapel is on the castle side of the church.

Services are held at the following times:

7.00pm - 1st and 3rd Tuesdays - Eucharist and healing Service

10.30 am - Thursdays - Eucharist (Traditional language)

In August the Chapel is open daily from 12 noon for private prayer.

Three ancient bell-ringing customs remain:

  • The Apprentice Bell is daily at 8am
(rung since mediaeval times to wake the town's apprentices)
  • The Curvew bell is rung daily at 8pm to announce that fires must be damped down(also rung since mediaeval times)
  • The Pancake Bell is rung at 11.55 on Shrove Tuesday to remind houswives to prepare their pancake batter.
