Summer Songs of Praise

Do come and sing along with of all of our favourite hymns from over the years at St Mary's Church Richmond.  The service starts at 6.30pm and will finish with being able to spend time together over summer refreshments of scones and cream topped with a strawberry and a glass of sparkling elderflower.  Why not bring a friend? And if you fancy singing in the "come and sing" choir that would be great too.  All are welcome.

Charity of the month August 2019

The Charity of the Month for August is the Jonas Centre. This is a holiday centre with conference facilities near Redmire, in the heart of Wensleydale, run by a Christian trust. There are twelve self-catering log cabins with peaceful views, where families and groups can get away from the stresses and strains of everyday life. It is in 15 acres of land, with various animals living on site, including a Shetland pony, a pygmy goat and lots of chickens. There is a children’s playground, outdoor and indoor games and above all, stunning views, great places to visit and lovely walks.

The money raised by the Charity of the Month donations will go towards subsidising holidays at the Jonas Centre. Their ‘Subsidised Break Scheme’ is only possible through generous donations, and reduces the cost of holidays there by 80%. People who would benefit are referred by a professional who is involved with the person or family – often a local clergy person or healthcare professional. 1700 subsidised holidays have been provided since 2004, for families in crisis, those experiencing bereavement, people needing a break from caring roles and many others such as young people from inner cities, people suffering from depression and those who are victims of domestic violence. The Jonas Centre provides the setting where people can find rest and tranquillity, with caring and supportive staff who understand their needs.

The Charity of the Month donations will go towards helping this Christian charity extend their hospitality to more people in need.
